Discuss the tips to writing the body copy of an appealing outdoor ad (billboard).
Here are the few tips:
1. Keep it simple.
Audience will be driving or walking when they saw your ad. They only have a few seconds to notice and engage in your ad. So don't make it complicated and pile it with a lot of information. The fewer the world, the bigger the chance they will understand, and it should consists of: an appealing visuals, a catchy headline and the contact info.
2. Use high contrasting color.
Instead of using soft or pastel color, using a bold and a solid color are more visible and noticeable when the audience passed by your ad.
3. Choice of font.
Do avoid using a thin font style as they are barely visible in a long distance. Forget about all the fancy fonts, a thick stroke and a simple style font will do as long as the headline is understandable and memorable. And do mind about the size of the font. The more visible it is, the greater it will be.
4. Communicate with the audiences.
By creating a communicative ad, it will build the connection between the audience and the product. Audiences could feel less bored when they are in the traffic and it could also build a friendly image for the company.

I agree with the tips that Maya points out. In my opinion, the logo of the brand should be placed obviously in the billboard. It is to help the audience who are not enough time to memorise the contact info can go to search the brand name that they only remember. Besides that, advertiser also should use the appropriate words in the billboard especially in the sensitive ads. Advertiser should make sure that there is no racist, sexist or any bias in the ads as outdoor ads are published in public that will be seen by everyone.
ReplyDeleteMaya stated very good tips. On top of that, in my opinion it is important to create a creative advertisement. Unlike printed advertisements, billboard ads have to be more careful with their creativity where when people drive past the billboard they are able to understand the message that wants to be conveyed or even the product or service that wants to be promoted. If an ad needs to put more thought to think twice what it means, people may just drive past the billboard without gaining any message. As a driver myself, I came across some really bad advertising. For example, the company wants to sell their hardware product, however they just placed a girl with a bright smile posing. There was literally no connection between the product and the female model. This may be a method that they want to use to attract male drivers, however if the ad makes no sense. People will also lost the confidence in the brand.
ReplyDeleteMy oh Maya, a lot of good points stated there really. but another thing that I feel maya missed out on is the visuals!
ReplyDeleteoutdoor ad has to have super strong attractive visuals otherwise its never gonna "fly". Being one who spends majority of his life outside its clear and evident that ads with the strongers visuals usually get my attention at first glance
Billboard ads should have a connection with the people who is reading it. Choice of words are very important. Also, billboards should have proper visuals as some people might be a little sensitive when it comes to races, sizes and weight.
ReplyDeleteAgreed with Maya about the contrast of the visuals, as a dull ad would not be attractive. Keeping it simple is a sentence that an advertiser should always remember. Never make things complicated because people might lose attention to the number of words being read. For example, an ad with many words are boring than an ad with fewer words.
