Question 2 week 9

Poorly written billboard, and tips on how to write a good billboard

A good body copy is organized, it usually starts out fast and stays interesting, it is believable, get noticed but not to be a huge distraction, it stresses and reinforces the main benefits the product has to offer. Firstly, this billboard above has created controversy with overweight people. According to the research I’ve done, many obese people got offended. The owner of the billboard would probably want people to get the direct message which is good, but then this is way to direct. This billboard then was taken down due to complaints.

These people could have come up with better ads. Yes, billboards should start outfast and stay interesting but then I do not think it’s appropriate to stereotype people. For example, the message should involve everyone instead of one specific stereotype. The rule of a good billboard is to get noticed but not to be a huge distraction, this “save the whales” billboard was a huge distraction in a bad way. For example, it should be written to interest people in a good way. Though I agree that this billboard is well organized just that it will be much better with a good body copy.  Well, this poorly written billboard did clearly stress out on its benefits but again, it is just written in a bad way.

  1. The owner of the billboard should be careful of using the word when the topic is quite sensitive. It is no wrong if the owner want to convey their message in exaggerate way, but sometime some exaggerate word can offended some of the people. Besides, this advertisement also sexist as there just put the back of a female.

Peta known as "People for the Ethical Treatment of Animal". So, actually the reason why the ads ask the people become vegetarian is to solve the problem of animal cruelty by reducing the people to eat the meat of animal. But, I don't feel that this message was conveyed clearly from this billboard. One of the reason is because I don't know about the Peta. I suggest that maybe Peta can deliver the message in another way like provide the benefit of being vegetarian or the reason of reduce the meat intake.

  2. This advertisement is actually creatively made but in a wrong method. This was a wrong step just as Lydia mentioned above, to stereotype a particular body type in the society. At times, not all obese people eat meat and sometimes it may be just because of family genes. It is unfair to the obese people in the society because this advertisement may create an image that they are the cause of animal cruelty.

But on the other hand, the non-obese society may not see this advertisement so negatively as they feel that the message is not directed to them. However, at the same time they may also be able to receive the message that wants to be conveyed. Therefore, I do feel that it is a creative advertisement yet not cleverly made.
