"Make
it simple. Make it memorable. Make it inviting to look at. Make it fun to
read.” said Oglivy, regarding his advice on how to be a good
copywriter. One of Oglivy’s most creative ads will be his KFC ad, as it
displays the 3 useful tips for any copywriters:
1) Good sense of humor
2) Aesthetically
inclined – both visual and verbal
Oglivy is a genius, and has managed to capture the attention of
customers by empathizing with the customers needs for food or in this case of
the ad - dinner. While empathizing at
the same time, he used a humorous way in order to illustrate the point: ‘KFC
fixes your dinner problems: on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
Friday and Saturday, which is basically any day!’ The ad is also both visually
and verbally inclined, and it not only make customers realized their need for
KFC but their want as well. A bucket of delicious crispy KFC Fried chicken for
dinner everyday? Sounds like anybody’s dream come true!

ReplyDeleteOglivy did come up with a great advertisement applying his own principles in advertising. However, his tips may not be applied to all types of advertisements. It is suitable for KFC as it is this brand is trying to bring out a bright and joyful image. Having good sense of humour may not be an good idea for advertisements such as PSA. This advertisement nevertheless is smartly created as they know how to catch consumers needs. Consumers may have a conflict in their mind whether or not to have such an unhealthy meal, but the advertisement was created in such a way that will make the consumers feel that it is okay to have it and KFC is more than happy to serve them everday. Amazingly the slogan 'finger lickin' good...' is still used up till today. The slogan is also very catchy and meaningful where KFC is trying to tell their customers to eat their fried chicken with their hands only without any fork and spoon.

As Joey mentioned, i like how they chose 'finger lickin' good' as the copy, it emphasized that their chicken tastes the best when it's eaten with hands. Oglivy made a nice ad for KFC, but it will somehow be more appealing if he used another picture of the chicken. Since most people would get tired and bored by eating the same food for few days. And the ad is not convincing enough to say that customers did need KFC. Maybe they want, but it doesn't mean that they need it.
ReplyDeleteBut overall, i did think Oglivy came up with an interesting idea, it could catch the customer's attention and the copy could make it more memorable for the customers.
Oglivy had came out with simple but deep impression advertisement. Even though this advertisement only consists of seven same KFC boxes, visually it looks clean and neat. If Oglivy used different pictures of chicken, it will just make the advertisement messy. I agree that Oglivy very genius to use "dinner" in this advertisement. This is because Oglivy's advertisement which states "We fix Sunday dinner on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday" has helped to solved many people's problem for example people after work or school they must be wondering what to eat and where to eat. Cooking is too troublesome sometimes and eating out is definitely easier and faster. KFC is also known to have many branches and therefore it is convenient for people to find their shop and dine there.
ReplyDeleteBesides, the slogan "finger lickin' good" also very catchy and it even used in the television advertisement until now.

Oglivy was very right about his advice on good copy writing. Till today people do follow these steps into writing a good advertisement. Agree with candice about even though its not healthy it is the fastest way to get food especially when now days everyone is in a rush for time. According to the advertisement shown i think it is a good way of telling people that KFC is available everyday with every meal.
ReplyDeleteAnd i think this advertisement would bring many people to eat KFC
